GLASGOW – Celtic blew Benfica away in Glasgow last season and manager Gordon Strachan wants a repeat performance when the sides meet again in the Champions League tonight.
The Parkhead side won 3-0 at home to the Portuguese in October 2006 and Strachan believes it was possibly his team’s best display since he arrived at the club. Although they lost the return match by a similar margin, Celtic went on to qualify from the section along with Manchester United. After losing 1-0 away to Benfica nearly two weeks ago, Celtic must win on Tuesday to have any realistic chance of qualifying from Group D, which also includes AC Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk. But Strachan hopes a similar performance to last year’s game can help them achieve the result they need.Nampa-AFPAlthough they lost the return match by a similar margin, Celtic went on to qualify from the section along with Manchester United. After losing 1-0 away to Benfica nearly two weeks ago, Celtic must win on Tuesday to have any realistic chance of qualifying from Group D, which also includes AC Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk. But Strachan hopes a similar performance to last year’s game can help them achieve the result they need.Nampa-AFP
