I WOULD like to express my anger over an incident that took place in Windhoek on Friday, July 20 2007 in Katutura.
To get straight to the point, I recently sent my little brother the latest mobile phone worth £300 (N$4 500) from London, United Kingdom. My brother went to the shops and on his way Police officers in uniform stopped him and searched him to see if he didn’t carry any illegal stuff like drugs etc, which I think is a great thing to ensure the safety of the people. When they couldn’t find illegal stuff, they told my brother that he had stolen the mobile phone he had on him.My brother told them that his older brother who lives in London had bought him the phone. The Police officer took the phone from my brother without arresting him! He then drove off hastily with my brother’s new phone without telling my brother his name and at which Police station he works. To me, this is daylight robbery by people who are supposed to maintain law and order in the country.Police officers, instead of arresting the B1 Butcher who killed women, are now preying on law-abiding citizens. My brother clearly remembers the faces of the Police officers that stole his mobile phone! Namibia is in such a mess! 1.Police stations are under-funded: this leads to Police officers robbing innocent people like my brother.2.Health system is in chaos! 3.Corruption is happening at the taxpayer’s expense 4.Escalating crimes because most of the serious crimes are not solved.5.Education system is also in a mess and school dropouts increasing 6.Unemployment very high 7.AIDS is also on the increase 8.There is income equality and the gap is too wide 9.There are no honest role models in Namibia. It’s time for us to pull up our socks to form a united society that is based on moral principles!
