SON of the late Lucky Dube, Thokozani Dube, is in Namibia to perform at the ‘Celebrating Lucky Dube’ concert in Windhoek on Saturday. Best known by his stage name TK Dube, the legendary singer’s son will be performing with guest artists Ras Sheehama and the continently acclaimed Ben Priest.
The organisers say the concert forms part of the launch of an album by TK Dube and the late Lucky Dube’s band as well as a book celebrating the legend. ‘Walking a Mile in His Shoes: My Spiritual Journey’ by Lenah Mochoele hit the shelves this year and will be available for sale at the concert.
Because Lucky Dube’s music has such a large following in Namibia, the organisers felt it was only right to bring fans the book and the new album.
With 18 October marking eight years since the death of Lucky Dube, TK admits that it was not easy working with his late father’s band but it was made easier when they understood that they are not trying to replace Lucky Dube, but rather celebrating him through music.
“We sat down and understood what the journey is about and from there it became much easier,” TK Dube said.
This being his first time in the Land of the Brave, TK Dube is aware of his father’s following and admits to being a bit nervous about performing for his fans.
“Whenever you touch the name Lucky Dube, there is a sense of nervousness.”
He said that fans can expect a mixture of music from his album with his father’s band and hits by his father.
The book and album will be available for sale at Zoo Park on Friday, 16 October and Saturday, 17 October from 10h00.
Tickets for the show are available at all NamPost outlets in Windhoek for N$80 in advance and N$100 at the gate. The tickets are also available online at www.staytoday.com.na.
