The name ‘Onesto’ already rings a bell in many ears.
The singer, a two-time Namibia Sanlam/NBC Music Awards nominee back in the day, has been keeping a low profile while making music.
He was mainly known for his duo on ‘Onesto & Eddy’ and made waves in 2011 with the song ‘Gheto Luv’.
The singer chatted with The Namibian last week about his journey in music and shared his upcoming projects.
“The journey has been a roller coaster, I must say. I had to balance life between family, work and studio time, whereby family and work took up much of the time and delayed my musical projects.
“Nonetheless, I managed to work on an album titled ‘Ondalila’, which translates as ‘I cried’,” said Onesto.
He added that the debut album that he produced, released a few years ago, was his introduction to the industry as a solo artist after he parted ways with Eddy.
Talking about his achievements, he said apart from being nominated for the country’s most prominent awards, he managed to collaborate with talented artists in the country.
SOLO CAREER
Although Onesto was down for some time, he said he had to get this life in order first.
“I neglected music a little bit. I needed a comeback, hence, the many singles. I kind of have to study the industry and get to know what people want to listen to at this particular juncture.”
It was two years ago when he teamed up with Don Kamati, Nazile, Miss Rose and Andrew on the beat for his first single titled ‘I Receive,’ which was conceived.
He later released ‘Tala’, which features producer and singer Mr Glo on the beat ‘Ameni’, a gospel track featuring Mr Glo and Miss Rose, ‘Baby Girl’, ‘Ndjo, which features the talented duo from the riverside, Rundu TKB; ‘Onda Yambekwa’, ‘Saturday Night’, featuring Miss Rose; and many more.
Recently, Onesto released his latest hit single ‘Unconditional Love’, featuring TeQla.
“TeQla and I come a long way. We kind of lost touch due to unforeseen circumstances, so upon re-linking up, we decided to hit the studio and work on a banger; that is how ‘Unconditional Love’ came about.”
‘Unconditional Love’ was produced, recorded, and mastered at DJ Chronic’s studios.
The video was shot and directed in Windhoek by Sodo of Basement Films.
UPCOMING PROJECT
Onesto is gearing up for his second album, titled ‘Overdosing Blessings’, to be released at the end of this month.
“I have over 20 tracks now and wanted to have an album of only 12 tracks, but I am forced to push it to 18 tracks at least, so I have to leave out like 10 tracks,” says Onesto.
The album will feature TeQla, Don Kamati, TKB, Glo, Miss Rose, ML Music, Nazile, Neslow, Black Dice, Brabel, and M’Gee, just to mention a few.
Shitutuma (S2), Glo Solani, Andrew on the Beat, Chronics, Onesto and Elvo produced the album.
