Carlos Tevez court date set

LONDON – Carlos Tevez is expected to give evidence when his long-running transfer saga reaches the High Court on August 22.

Tevez has been confirmed as a witness in the dispute, which was fast-tracked for an early hearing after the Argentine’s representatives, Media Sports Investments (MSI) and Just Sports Inc, applied for an interim injunction. The injunction would mean Tevez could join Manchester United from West Ham immediately, while the financial elements of the row would then be resolved at a later trial.Kia Joorabchian, who owns MSI and Just Sports Inc, is suing West Ham for a breach of contract after the club terminated an agreement that the Iranian businessman was due a fee for Tevez if he was sold by the Hammers.West Ham claim the agreement was legally invalid and unenforceable and were happy for the matter to be settled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).But Joorabchian is determined to win the battle and Tevez could now play a key role on the witness stand.* Meanwhile, Rafael Benitez launches his fourth season in charge at Liverpool under real pressure to deliver silverware to the Anfield trophy room. The Spaniard has already proved his worth by steering the Merseyside club to two Champions League finals, one of which ended in triumph after a dramatic May night in Istanbul in 2005.He has also lifted the FA Cup as well as taking Liverpool to the League Cup final.Yet there is now a level of expectancy about Liverpool created by his eye-catching summer signings.Despite occasional success in domestic and European knockout competitions, fans have been waiting for a league title since 1990.They will believe that the arrival of Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin will give the side the firepower and fluency needed to win the Premiership for the first time since it started.* Manchester United captain Gary Neville and strikers Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are battling to be fit for the start of next season.Manager Alex Ferguson, whose champions open at home to Reading on Aug.12, told www.manutd.com the trio would not be ready for “roughly a couple of
