Seven people were involved in a car accident after the vehicle they were travelling in hit cattle in the road at Mile 20 in the Kavango West region on Friday.
According to the regional commander, commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, one person died in the accident.
“Willem Sindimba (53) lost control over the vehicle and avoided a nearby electrical pole after swerving off the road,” Sakuwa-Neo said.
The commissioner stated the car crashed into a fallen tree along the road on the opposite lane, sustaining major damage.
“Magreth Wayera Muha (53) died. The other occupants were rushed to Rundu State Hospital,” she noted.
The other occupants — Mathias Hausiku (36), Sakaria Kampanza (21), Sylvia Muha (21), Victoria Nekero (29) and Nathanell Kandjimi (1) — all sustained slight injuries.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
Sakuwa-Neo appealled to cattle owners, cautioning them not to let their livestock roam freely.
“Lives are lost due to their acts,” she stressed.
