Capricorn Group once again confirmed its commitment to schools’ netball in Namibia by announcing its continued sponsorship of the annual Capricorn Schools Netball League on Friday.
The League officially commenced on Friday with the start of the first league matches in Windhoek, and will conclude with the national play-offs by 22 August 2025. Capricorn Group has been sponsoring the Schools Netball League since 2017, when it took over the sponsorship from its subsidiary Bank Windhoek.
“We are proud of our group’s legacy of positively contributing to netball development in Namibia over many years. The Capricorn Schools Netball League provides a platform for netball players to compete for their schools in the national league and play competitive netball of a high standard, enhancing their skills,” Marlize Horn of Capricorn Group said.
“Sport, including netball, plays an important role in building character and promoting youth teamwork, commitment, and hard work. At Capricorn Group, we remain committed to supporting sports development, especially women’s sports, to create sustainable opportunities in the regions and communities where we operate,” she added.
This year, 85 teams from various regions in Namibia, including Khomas, Karas, Hardap, Otjizondjupa, Kunene, Otjikoto, Omaheke and Erongo, will participate in the Capricorn Schools Netball League. Participating teams represent 17 public and 13 private schools. The teams will compete for the coveted title in various age categories, ranging from under-12, 13, 14, 15 and 17 to under 19.
“We are thrilled to announce the start of the 2025 Capricorn Schools Netball League and anticipate an exhilarating season of competitive matches. We extend our gratitude to Capricorn Group for supporting us in making this league a success,” said Liezel Garbers, chairperson of Capricorn Schools Netball League.
