Cape power outage affects Namibia

A MAJOR power outage in the Cape left the entire Namibia without electricity for about two hours during the early hours of the morning.

NamPower, in a brief statement yesterday, said the power outage (between 02h13 and 03h58) was a result of faults that occurred in the transmission line in the Western Cape, from where Namibia is supplied. At that time, Namibia was supplied via imports because Ruacana was taken off [line] due to a low water flow of the Kunene River.Van Eck Power Station was also not on load because of the sufficient power import, NamPower said. The power utility said power was restored at 03h58 and everything is back to normal.NamPower has apologised to its customers for any inconvenience caused during the power outage.
