Calling all phenomenal women to rise

THE Namibian initiative, Rooted and Grounded is hosting their first ever women’s empowerment initiative aimed at touching women’s lives across the country in a radical way.

Inspired by the cry for Namibian women to take their rightful place in society and in light of unfortunate events such as passion killings that have negatively affected women, the initiative will be hosting a Phenomenal Woman Arise gala dinner.

“It is evident that there is a subconscious scar left on Namibian women, a general demoralisation which is robbing them of so much awaiting this country through women,” Charlotte Mojackie, one of the organisers of the event, said.

The initiative has identified women from all walks of life and across all age groups to benefit from an empowerment grant which will be awarded on the evening of the gala dinner. The benefits will be granted in the form of scholarships, financial contributions to start up businesses and assistance to continue projects they are working on.

“One of the beneficiaries we identified is a very smart lady who went to study but due to financial difficulty could not continue so we will be assisting her with funds to finish her studies,” said Mojackie.

She added that they also identified a Grade 12 pupil who will be assisted in continuing her tertiary education next year.

In order to motivate the beneficiaries, the organisers have invited Monica Kalondo, chairperson of EBank, Esther Nghipondoka, acting chief executive officer of Namibia Training Authority, Helena Amutyena, deputy director of legal services at the Ministry of Defence, and Daisry Mathias, CEO of Team Namibia.

Attendees will also be entertained with music by Esme and band, poetry by Leilani Riddles and a stand-up comedy piece by Hermien Elago.

The gala dinner will take place on Saturday, 4 October at Nampower Convention Centre at 17h00.

Tickets are available at all Computicket outlets for N$350.
