CABINET approved a new policy document for the housing sector.
According to a press release on the latest Cabinet resolutions, the review of the National Housing Policy started in 2003 and in October 2006 a National Conference was held to incorporate comments and contributions from stakeholders into the draft white paper.
The new White Paper Policy on Housing outlines the current demand for housing in urban and rural areas and the affordability of housing for all population segments.It proposes interventions such as developing housing strategies for different community groups and defining the roles and responsibilities of all the institutions with a stake in land and housing delivery.At Independence, housing was identified as one of the priority areas of development alongside education, health and agriculture.
