Busiswa joins Ntando Duma for sequel of ‘Gqom Nation’

MTV Base launches into 2019 with its continued commitment to bring audiences local content productions that resonate strongly with viewers by announcing the sequel of the riveting television show ‘Gqom Nation’.

The sequel features ‘Banomoya’ crooner Busiswa as co-host of the epic music and dance show, working alongside Ntando Duma – who has been with the series since it launched in 2017.

Filmed in KwaZulu-Natal where the genre initially exploded, the latest season of ‘Gqom Nation’ will premiere on MTV Base (DStv channel 322) on Friday, 25 January at 18h00.

Produced by The Visual Content Gang, on its debut season the show set tongues wagging for showcasing the captivating music genre with skilled dancers whose electrifying moves synced with the beats created by underground originators and newly famous DJs featured in each episode.

For the new season, the production team has collaborated with MTV Base and opened the industry by holding auditions for potential dancers from across KwaZulu-Natal communities in hopes to unearth undiscovered dancers.

From these auditions, 78 talented dancers were hand-picked to form 10 groups, namely ADM, The Champions, Versalites, 031 Movement, Bay Rockers, Team Wassha, All-Stars, D Mob, Ghetto Latinos and Rebels– who are all featured on the show.

Monde Twala, vice president for youth, music and BET at Viacom International Media Networks Africa, said: “MTV Base is the cultural home of the millennial generation, music fans and artists and we are all about creating relevant, fun, bold and stimulating youth entertainment formats like ‘Gqom Nation’. We are thrilled to have symbolic gqom musician Busiswa as co-host alongside Ntando Duma, along with incredible DJs who wave the gqom flag high globally, as well as dancers whose innovative moves will keep our audiences glued to their screens every Friday night for 11 weeks. The new season is set to thrill and keep our viewers on their feet.”

Each week the hosts will be joined by some of the entertainment industry’s big DJs such as Tira, Vumar, Maphorisa, C’ndo, Dbn Nyts, Distruction Boyz, LeSoul, Cruel Boyz, Happy Gal and Funky Qla. They will merge with one dance crew who will perform their best moves on the dance floor while some of South Africa’s entertainers who are adulated in the gqom culture such as Moonchild Sanelly, Dladla Mshunqisi, Tipcee, Madanon, Goldmax, Rhea Blak, Bhizer, Artchild, Biggie, Paras and Zodwa Wabantu will also make a guest appearance.

“’Gqom Nation’ is one of the first shows that is specifically broadcasting gqom culture to the audiences since its growth, and this genre is certainly taking over the world. I am ecstatic to be a part of this evolution,” Busiswa said.
