Business leader laid to rest

THE Chairman of the northern branch of the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Phillip Amwele, was buried at Onguta on Saturday.

Amwele died at the age of 51 in the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital last Monday after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident on June 18. The Chief Executive Officer of the NCCI, Tarah Shaanika, told the mourners that Namibia had lost a true business leader who had made a contribution the country’s economy.”Amwele established himself as a successful businessman with various business activities, especially in the construction sector of the economy, creating direct permanent jobs for many Namibians,” Shaanika said.”He was a selfless businessman who devoted a lot of his time and energy assisting other entrepreneurs to grow and succeed in business and sacrificed time, energy and resources in establishing a stronger branch of the NCCI in the north in a selfless manner which cannot be matched by many of his peers,” Shaanika said.He said late Amwele played a significant role in the development of the Chamber movement in Namibia, especially in Northern Namibia, because he strongly believed in a strong, united, organised private sector in Namibia, to facilitate a meaningful contribution from the private sector to the development of the economy.””The Namibian economy will benefit immensely if more entrepreneurs were to follow in the late Amwele’s footsteps by emphasising the delivery of quality products and services, which will in turn make our businesses competitive locally and globally,” Shaanika said.
