Burundi rebels back to share

BUJUMBURA – Burundi’s largest Hutu rebel faction ended an almost three-month boycott of the country’s power-sharing government yesterday, saying a list of demands including more official appointments had largely been met.

The Forces for the Defence of Democracy (FDD) walked out of a fledgling unity government on May 3 in a blow to Burundi’s attempts to end a decade-long civil war in which an estimated 300 000 people have been killed.
