Building blocks of friendship

TWO German organisations have joined hands to build a mini-clubhouse for children at Okahao, north of Oshakati.

Germany’s Pflaster eV organisation in Halle and Egumbo Okulonga Pamwe organisation in Berlin, brought the project to Namibia. The children paint wooden building blocks which are sold and the proceeds are donated to welfare organisations.”Through the painting of the blocks the children are kept off the streets and busy and the children who buy them can build and play with colourful individual blocks,” says Christina Pilz, who represents the two organisations. Now children at the Waldorf School in Windhoek and a crèche in Katutura are also painting the blocks. The blocks are then sent to Germany to be sold at street markets. The money raised in this way will be used to build a mini-club in the North where children can gather for after-school activities.
