THE brutal killing of a man at a Walvis Bay club on Friday marred a relatively peaceful long weekend at the coast, the Police reported yesterday.
Martin Beukes (24) was at Willy’s Joy Club in Walvis Bay’s Narraville suburb at around 01h00 on Friday, when he got involved in a heated argument with Reginald Siebritz (28).
According to eyewitnesses, Siebritz allegedly broke a beer bottle over Beukes’ head and then stabbed him with it before grabbing a plank and repeatedly beating Beukes, even after he had collapsed.
The Erongo Police Chief, Commissioner Festus Shilongo, said by the time the Police arrived at the scene Beukes was dead.
Siebritz appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He was denied bail and remains in custody. The case was postponed to June 8.
‘This is an unfortunate incident. The coast was full of people from all over Namibia. Many youths attended the National Youth Cultural Festival and besides this one incident, it was relatively peaceful and orderly, which I am very pleased about,’ Commissioner Shilongo said.
‘I want to thank all visitors and locals for co-operating with us in making Erongo safe.’
