Two clowns, Claudio Levati and Cristina Aguirre, from the Spanish NGO ‘Clowns without Borders’ are currently in Namibia on a 15-day tour.
The volunteers of ‘Clowns without Borders’ travel around the world entertaining children. They visit mostly developing countries – putting on shows at orphanages, shelters and children’s homes. Trying to bring a laugh to children who grow up under extreme difficulties and who desperately need to laugh to briefly forget their surroundings and troubles. In Windhoek they will be visiting the Hope Village, Dagbreek School, SOS Children’s Village and the Namibia Children’s Home, among others. When they visited the Mount Sinai Center in Katutura recently, they were first greeted with tears and screams of fear as the children had never seen clowns before. Eventually a few children started to laugh and soon the tent was roaring with laughter and excited clapping.
