‘Bring your unwanted babies’

AT the beginning of the week the City Police were called out to two different places where the bodies of newborn babies had been found.

One body was found in the Hakahana part of Katutura. It was so decomposed that the sex of the baby could not be determined. The same day the body of a little girl was found wrapped in a plastic bag on an open piece of land between the Roessing Foundation and the Katutura Magistrate’s Court.Claudia Namises, founder of Orlindie’s Place of Safety in Katutura, says she was very shocked and saddened when she heard about these babies who were just dumped in the veld. She has been looking after orphans for the past seven years and has adopted five of them who were brought to the shelter as babies.”Children are our future and the next President could be among them,” she said.Namises encourages young mothers to bring unwanted babies to Orlindie’s Place of Safety rather than abandoning or killing them.”Leave the little ones on our doorstep and we will look after them. Each baby has the right to live,” she pleaded.
