Brave Warriors to play Malawi

NAMIBIA will play against the Malawian national soccer side as part of that country’s independence celebrations on July 6.

Namibia Football Association (NFA) Acting Secretary General Barry Rukoro made the announcement at Soccer House yesterday. At the same occasion, national coach Ben Bamfuchile said the players will go into a training camp on June 25 and depart for Malawi on July 4.Bamfuchile said he will use mainly local players for the friendly encounter, adding that he needs more time with them to lift their standard of play.Bamfuchile thanked all the spectators who turned up for the DRC match, saying he never expected such a large crowd of about 10 000 people.Said Bamfuchile: “It adds value to the national team in its quest to go forward. The players also feel and hear the support and don’t want to disappoint their supporters.”He said the team is on course, saying that he never expected it to change so much in 12 months.”The growth in the team gives direction to go forward,” he said.On Namibia’s chances for the 2008 African Cup of Nations, Bamfuchile said although the race is tight, Namibia still have a chance to qualify for the finals in January 2008, if they beat Ethiopia in their last qualifying match in September this year and if the Democratic Republic of Congo draw with Libya.Bamfuchile stressed that Namibia will not qualify for Ghana as one of three best runners-up because four other nations, including Sudan, stand a better chance.Apart from the Malawi match, Namibia will have one other international match to prepare for Ethiopia, when they play Botswana in the 2007 COSAFA Cup at the end of July in Botswana.NampaAt the same occasion, national coach Ben Bamfuchile said the players will go into a training camp on June 25 and depart for Malawi on July 4.Bamfuchile said he will use mainly local players for the friendly encounter, adding that he needs more time with them to lift their standard of play.Bamfuchile thanked all the spectators who turned up for the DRC match, saying he never expected such a large crowd of about 10 000 people.Said Bamfuchile: “It adds value to the national team in its quest to go forward. The players also feel and hear the support and don’t want to disappoint their supporters.”He said the team is on course, saying that he never expected it to change so much in 12 months.”The growth in the team gives direction to go forward,” he said.On Namibia’s chances for the 2008 African Cup of Nations, Bamfuchile said although the race is tight, Namibia still have a chance to qualify for the finals in January 2008, if they beat Ethiopia in their last qualifying match in September this year and if the Democratic Republic of Congo draw with Libya.Bamfuchile stressed that Namibia will not qualify for Ghana as one of three best runners-up because four other nations, including Sudan, stand a better chance.Apart from the Malawi match, Namibia will have one other international match to prepare for Ethiopia, when they play Botswana in the 2007 COSAFA Cup at the end of July in Botswana.Nampa
