THE Brave Warriors can brace themselves for several football matches against lower-division teams in Germany towards the end of this year, after an invitation was extended to them by a wealthy German businessman this week.
The Chairman of Turkyiemsport Football Club in Germany, Heiko Pohl, said he wished to host the national team at any given time, but preferably later this year, for matches against several teams in that country’s regional league.Pohl, who is on a business visit to Namibia, also announced that he is donating 100 sets of football kit and other equipment to the Namibian Ministry of Sport, to be distributed to schools and charitable organisations. He said the first consignment is already in Namibia and the second is expected within a few weeks to complete the 100 sets, which include shirts, socks, soccer balls, chin guards, tog bags and other training gear.He said all the equipment is brand new and will be distributed by the ministry according to the needs of the football development programmes in the country.Deputy Minister of Sport Pohamba Shifeta and his permanent secretary, Peingeondjabi Shipoh, accepted the donation and assured that his office will distribute it favourably among the ones in need.Shipoh added that they will communicate the invitation for the Warriors to the Namibia Football Association (NFA).corry@namibian.com.na
