Angolan president João Lourenço has hailed founding president Sam Nujoma a beacon of hope who inspired the liberation struggle.
Lourenço was speaking at Nujoma’s state memorial service on Friday in Windhoek, where heads of states and foreign diplomats were in attendance to pay their respects.
“Namibia and Angola fought for the struggle to end the oppression of South Africa, a relationship that has grown to strength today,” he said.
He said Nujoma’s death is also a moment to reflect on the long-lasting peace both countries enjoy after defeating their oppressors.
“My heartfelt condolences to all Namibians and Africa at large,” he said.
He added that today, he celebrates Nujoma’s work which will be remembered forever and serve as a beacon for Namibia and the African continent.
Lourenço said brave men do not die, but rather live on forever.
