Brace for another cold front!

WHILE Namibians are still shivering from highly unusual cold weather that set in on Sunday, another cold front is expected to make landfall in the Cape tomorrow evening.

The next front will have little effect on Namibia, though, as it will pass very quickly, says Olga Tjiueza of the Windhoek Weather Bureau. She said the cold weather that has held the greater part of Namibia in its icy grip for the past few days should be a thing of the past by tomorrow. It was caused by a cold front followed by a strong surface high-pressure system, which brought sub-zero temperatures in southern Namibia on Monday. The cold front was accompanied by heavy rain in parts of South Africa. In Gauteng, heavy rain has caused traffic chaos and delayed flights at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport. The SA Weather Service said yesterday that the rain would continue for the next few days at least. The heavy rainfall in Gauteng is not linked the cold front tormenting Namibia, though. The Weather Service said it was caused by moist tropical air that had blown in from Central Africa.
