Boy (5) dies after beating

A boy (5) died on Friday night after he was allegedly beaten with a belt by his mother for stealing his grandfather’s cellphone.

He has been identified as Johannes Immanuel.

According to police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, the incident happened at Onegandjo village in the Oshikoto region.

It is alleged that Johannes’ body was discovered by his mother in the sleeping room.

Shikwambi said Johannes allegedly fell from a palm tree on 14 February but was not taken to the hospital as he appeared to be fine.

“His next of kin were informed and police investigations continue,” Shikwambi added.
