Bowls teams announced for AST Champs

The Namibian Bowling Association (NBA) has announced the two teams that will represent Namibia at this year’s edition of the African States Tournament (AST) in Jwaneng, Botswana from 6th -13th September 2014.

The teams are a mixture of rising stars and vastly experienced players, some of whom have participated at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland a fortnight ago.

The likes of Willem Esterhuizen and Douw Calitz just missed out on a medal in Glasgow when they came up short against England in their bronze-medal match.

The teams will also be hoping to achieve or even improve on last year’s AST performance. In front of a home crowed, the men’s team put up a great fight to take the overall place overall behind the dominant South Africans.

The women’s team also did well, coming fourth after the almost week-long tournament in the capital. They will, however, face stern competition with the likes of South Africa and Zambia being the favourites. Nevertheless, they fancy their chances of causing an upset or two.

The teams are as follows:

Men: Will Esterhuizen, Douw Calitz, Steven Peake, Axel Krahenbuhl, David Gibbons. Manager: Dave Hutchins

Women: Diana Viljoen, Sheena du Toit, Lesley Vermuelen, Anjuleen Viljoen, Marietjie Meyer. Manager: Avril Kotz

Coach: Alexander Joubert
