The Zone 6 Beach Volleyball Tour at Swakopmund’s Mole Beach concluded on Sunday with Botswana’s teams clinching gold titles in both the men and women’s divisions. Hosts, Namibia, secured fifth place in both divisions.

In the intense final matches, Botswana faced Angola in both divisions, ultimately claiming the gold medals. The bronze medal match in the women’s division saw Zimbabwe pitted against Angola, with Angola securing the bronze.

Despite not making it to the top three, Namibia’s teams showed potential and determination throughout the tournament. The event gave them an opportunity to gain valuable experience and exposure on an international stage, according to the technical director of the Namibia Volleyball Federation, Joseph Amakali.

MEN’S GAME … Botswana’s men, ranked fourth in Africa, dominated the Angolan team, who did not go down without a fight.

Botswana’s winning teams will now compete in the African Championship, with the possibility of qualifying for the Olympics. The Zone 6 Beach Volleyball Tour showcased growing talent in the region and served as a platform for athletes to hone their skills.

Amakali said by hosting the event, despite financial challenges, Namibia gave the local economy a boost, with hotels, guest houses, and local vendors benefiting from the influx of visitors.

“Delegates from the zone were present to observe and advise on preparations,” he said.

As the Zone 6 Beach Volleyball Tour continues, participating teams, including Namibia, will strive to improve their rankings in future leagues.

Amakali said the indoor national team plans to participate in the Zone 6 National Championships in Zimbabwe in September. Additionally, players will continue to travel to other countries to participate in the ongoing legs of the Zone 6 tour.
