Bond’s best wrecks Zim

BULAWAYO – New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond destroyed Zimbabwean hopes of a Test cricket recovery here yesterday by taking a career-best five wickets for just 11 runs.

On the first day of the second Test at Queens Sports Club, he wrecked any hopes the home side had of making a much better impression following their innings and 294 runs defeat at Harare last week. By lunch Zimbabwe were struggling again at 75 for six.Bond’s figures were seven overs, five maidens, five wickets for 11 runs.He trapped Dion Ebrahim with the second ball of the match, got Stuart Carlisle out for one by the same method and Hamilton Mazakadsa had failed to score when Brendon McCullum caught him behind the stumps.Bond claimed his first three wickets in 13 balls and he was 3-3 at that stage, when Zimbabwe were in abject disarray at three down for seven scored. As happened in the first Test, opening batsman Brendan Taylor was left to watch the carnage from the other end.Taylor and Craig Wishart appeared to start a recovery and they put on a fighting 58 for the fourth wicket with a good sprinkling of boundaries. But Wishart was caught in the gulley by Nathan Astle off James Franklin for 30, Bond captured Taylor who made 37 and Heath Streak was dismissed first ball with a McCullum catch, once more off Bond.- www.news24.co.zaBy lunch Zimbabwe were struggling again at 75 for six.Bond’s figures were seven overs, five maidens, five wickets for 11 runs.He trapped Dion Ebrahim with the second ball of the match, got Stuart Carlisle out for one by the same method and Hamilton Mazakadsa had failed to score when Brendon McCullum caught him behind the stumps.Bond claimed his first three wickets in 13 balls and he was 3-3 at that stage, when Zimbabwe were in abject disarray at three down for seven scored. As happened in the first Test, opening batsman Brendan Taylor was left to watch the carnage from the other end.Taylor and Craig Wishart appeared to start a recovery and they put on a fighting 58 for the fourth wicket with a good sprinkling of boundaries. But Wishart was caught in the gulley by Nathan Astle off James Franklin for 30, Bond captured Taylor who made 37 and Heath Streak was dismissed first ball with a McCullum catch, once more off Bond.- www.news24.co.za
