Zambezi regional police are investigating a case of murder after the decomposed body of a 38-year-old man was found in a stream at Mponje village without arms and private parts on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mate Kapali, and his next of kin have been informed of his death.

Zambezi regional crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Kenneth Simbwae confirmed the incident to The Namibian on Sunday.

Kapali was reported missing by his family members at Katima Mulilo police station on 13 May after he did not return home when he went out with his friends.

He added that the family started to search for him without any success.

However, on Saturday, around 11h40, a fisherman came across his body in the river and alerted the police.

“Besides the missing arms and private parts, the deceased also had no flesh on the face. He was only positively identified by the tattoos he had by his brother. No suspect has been arrested so far, and police investigations continue,” he said.

Simbwae appealed to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects in connection with the death of Kapali to come forward.
