Body found floating in Walvis harbour

THE body of a 30-year-old man was found floating in the Walvis Bay harbour at 08h00 yesterday.

The man was identified as a member of the Namibian Navy, but the Police did not release his name as his next of kin still had to be informed. Chief Inspector Sydney Philander told The Namibian that the deceased was employed on board the Navy’s only combat vessel, the corvette Lt-Gen Jerobeam Dimo Hamaambo, as a cook.He was apparently last seen on Wednesday making food for the crew.A crew member of a Spanish fishing vessel noticed his body floating between the vessel and the quay at the harbour.By yesterday afternoon there was no indication yet as to what had happened to him.The combat vessel, which arrived in Namibian waters only two weeks ago, was anchored on the yacht club side of the harbour. The vessel was donated to the maritime wing of the Namibian Defence Force by the government of Brazil.Chief Inspector Sydney Philander told The Namibian that the deceased was employed on board the Navy’s only combat vessel, the corvette Lt-Gen Jerobeam Dimo Hamaambo, as a cook.He was apparently last seen on Wednesday making food for the crew.A crew member of a Spanish fishing vessel noticed his body floating between the vessel and the quay at the harbour.By yesterday afternoon there was no indication yet as to what had happened to him.The combat vessel, which arrived in Namibian waters only two weeks ago, was anchored on the yacht club side of the harbour. The vessel was donated to the maritime wing of the Namibian Defence Force by the government of Brazil.
