THE decomposing body of a man was discovered on the campus of the University of Namibia (Unam) on Monday.
Students in the Kwame Nkurmah men’s dormitory informed university staff of their discovery at around 15h00. According to the Police, the students decided to investigate the source of a strong odour which had become stronger throughout the day.Police have identified the body as that of John Kwibisa Mbanga.He was found lying on a bed.According to unconfirmed reports, Mbanga was a cafeteria worker at the university’s hostel.It is suspected that he died sometime during the weekend.Police apparently arrived at the scene at around 16h20, and transferred the body to the Windhoek Police mortuary to determine the cause of death.”Unam is not in a position to state the cause of Mr Mbanga’s death at the moment, as it is still awaiting a post mortem,” Unam Public Relations Officer Utaara Hoveka said in a statement yesterday.”The office of the Vice Chancellor has requested a comprehensive report on the incident and the circumstances concerning Mr Mbanga’s access to the dormitory.The university at the same time wishes to express its sincere condolences to the bereaved family,” he stated.According to the Police, the students decided to investigate the source of a strong odour which had become stronger throughout the day.Police have identified the body as that of John Kwibisa Mbanga.
