Blue Waters under new management

BLUE Waters Sport Club has announced a new management which largely consists of former members who came back to the fold, but have been joined by several new faces this time.

The club established a new executive committee which will be headed by former Mayor of Walvis Bay King Mandume Muatunga. The other members in the committee include Walvis Bay City Council official Jacky Manale, former player Hellao Naruseb, former referee, rugby player and administrator Temba Nghitaunapo and staunch club supporter Meriam Nendongo. The club also elected a new national president in Titus Shilongo who called on all the newly elected members “to rise in unison to the challenges that await them”.The patron of the club is former Swapo Party Member of Parliament and Chief Whip Ben Amadhila, with the executive president being former Namibia Football Association (NFA) chief Charles Kauraisa. The honorary members are Desmond Plato, Joel Kakane, Petrus Katuuo and Ruben Shoonga. In addition, the club also elected three vice presidents, with the first being Eliphas ‘Oupapa’ Shipanga, the second Toko Nendongo and the third Theopo Mutilifa. There were also several sub-committees that were brought into being, which include Elders Council, Legal and Finance, Supporters Club, Technical, Corporate Communications and Marketing. On the Elders Council, Loide Kati will be the chairperson, with Oscar Hipundjua, Loide Viringa, Blasius Nehemia and Peter Mwandugwa as members.Rehoboth-based Magistrate Gibson Imbili will chair the Legal and Finance committee and will be assisted by Sidney Nuwuseb, Johanna Shidute, Silas Nakathingo and Hafeni Hangula.Nande Muatunga will head the Supporters Club, with another member being Gobbo Wilfred, while the rest of the members are still to be confirmed. The Technical Committee chairperson is Matie Amukwa, with Ranga Lucas, River Jekonia, Daniel Imbili and Martha Muatunga as members.Former NFA executive member Pele Muatunga will be the head of the club’s Communications and Marketing arm, with the rest being Erastus Haikali, Deselien Goreses and Manu Iipinge and Ephraim Kasuto.Former player and current businessman Dan Boy Ndjadila will be responsible for the international and external affairs of the club, while the club’s chief executive officer for the business arm is still to be confirmed. The new appointments were made in line with the club’s transformation process after the Blue Waters, one of the oldest teams in the country, disappointingly ended in the bottom half of the Namibia Premier League (NPL) last season.Three seasons ago, the football club won back-to-back league titles under the guidance of Zimbabwean-born coach Sheperd Murape. The new first vice president, Shipanga, outlined a season activity programme for the club until 2008.He said that it was his belief that together the responsible persons would transform the club “into a professional business unit that will give the impetus and create a platform to entice other members of the NPL to establish a formidable semi- or full professional league”.Muatunga yesterday confirmed that the current sponsorship deal with Africa Personnel Services (APS) will continue for the new season, but added that the size of the sponsorship has not yet been agreed upon.He also said that former owner Hendrik Dawids was still part of the club and is likely to serve on the board of directors, which will be unveiled in November this year.Dawids, who has invested thousands of dollars in the club over the past six years, holds a 20 per cent stake in the club, which is registered as a business. The other members in the committee include Walvis Bay City Council official
