Blue Waters moved up the log after a successful weekend in Windhoek, while Khomas Nampol regained the lead after beating Julinho at Rundu.

On Saturday, Blue Waters got off to an impressive start with a 4-1 win against Civics at Unam Stadium.

Striker Issaskar Gurirab nearly gave Blue Waters the lead after barely 20 seconds when he pounced onto a loose ball, but his shot went narrowly wide.

Blue Waters launched more attacks through Erastus Kulula, Lazarus Andjengo and Gregory Aukumeb, but Civics’ central defenders, captain Peter Steven and Kornelius Kornelius stood firm.

Blue Waters captain Pandeni Kandjambanga, however, broke the deadlock on 35 minutes with a cracking shot from the edge of the box.

Blue Waters stepped up the tempo after the break and after Civics’ keeper, Viril Namaseb pulled off a diving save to deny Andjengo, Issaskar Gurirab headed into the net from the resulting corner.

Gurirab turned provider for their third goal, putting Andjengo clear with a great pass, while Kulula made it 4-0 when he ran onto another defence splitting pass to beat Namaseb from close range.

Jandjamuje Maherero got a late consolation goal for Civics when they won a penalty for a foul and he scored from the spot.

On Sunday, Blue Waters were held to a goalless draw by Tigers in an entertaining encounter with chances for both sides.

Andjengo came the closest, hitting the crossbar from a freekick, while Erwin Tjiuija and Kulula also came close.

At the other end, Tangeni Shipahu made a strong return in attack after recovering from a recent motor car accident, while Quinton Kuruseb also created some chances.

They, however, had to share the spoils, which completed a good haul of four points for Blue Waters, who now move up to fourth position on 12 points.

Khomas Nampol, meanwhile, regained the lead after beating Julinho 1-0 on Sunday, through a goal by Rewaldo Prins early in the second half. That put them on top of the log on 18 points, with FC Ongos, who were inactive, dropping down to second place on 16.

African Stars, who were also inactive, remain third on 14 points, followed by Blue Waters (12) and Eeshoke Chula Chula (11 points).

Okahandja dropped down to sixth position after only picking up one point in a goalless draw against Tigers.

On Sunday they came up against an inspired Civics side that bounced back from their Blue Waters defeat, with a stirring display.

A great double strike by Nani Katjivena put them 2-0 ahead after only 16 minutes.

His first was a first-time shot after running onto a Jairus Shilingo pass, while the second, about four minutes later was another cracking shot from the edge of the box.

Okahandja fought back and Uaondjarure Nakambare opened their account, heading in from a corner, while Giovanni Kaninab got the equaliser when Civics keeper Malakia Handudi spilled a high ball and Kaninab put it away.

Rasantino Xoagub, however, restored Civics’ lead with a loping header that went high into the net, while John Gassonu added a fourth after a quick counter-attack.

That win saw Civics moving up three places to 10th on the log on seven points.

Okakarara Young Warriors, meanwhile, moved off the foot of the table up to 14th position after beating log leaders Khomas Nampol 1-0 at Grootfontein on Saturday.
