CONSIDERED by some to be Namibia’s top hip-hop act, Black Vulcanite has made it to the top 20 of the 2014 Jägermeister Back the Artist competition.
The group has been steadily making inroads on the Namibian and South African hip-hop scenes and look poised to follow in the footsteps of Sheen Skaiz, who took home the prize in 2013. Round two of the competition will search for the biggest track – be it hardcore, deep house, rock ‘n’ roll, pop, kwaito, or trance. Black Vulcanite’s track ‘Big Egos’ featuring Ruby Burton stands a chance of winning, so the group’s fans are encouraged to vote to keep them in the competition. Votes are limited to one per day, per person, which is monitored carefully to ensure fairness.
Once in the top 10, the judges’ decision comes into play. The judges are veterans in the music industry, hit song producers and the Jägermeister team.
Manager of Black Vulcanite, Leneave Hansen, says making it into this competition just goes to show how hard the group has been working. “Black Vulcanite has been doing very well in South Africa and being nominated for this competition is proof of that. All these accolades are great as they are recognition of the group’s work,” he said. He also emphasised that being selected out of 400 entrants is very impressive.
If they win, Black Vulcanite will get production time in studio with one of South Africa’s leading producers Justin de Nobrega, the man behind Jack Parow, Die Antwoord, Toya Delazy, and now Back the Artist 2013 winner Sheen Skaiz who’s currently recording his album.
