Black Africa garner full points

BLACK Africa had the best weekend of all teams in the domestic MTC Namibia Premiership with a 2-1 victory over coastal sides Eleven Arrows on Saturday and a similar margin against Blue Waters yesterday in the capital.

SKW stopped Chief Santos in their tracks with a 2-1 away win at the Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb, only their second win since entering the premiership this season. Orlando Pirates started the weekend with an impressive 4-3 win against Chief Santos also at Tsumeb, but were held to a 1-1 draw by Oshakati City yesterday.Oshakati City however ended on the winning side on Saturday at the Oshakati Independence Stadium, after they downed SKW 2-1.The matches involving Tigers, Ramblers and Touch & Go at the Khoaeb Stadium in Otavi were all called off due to a waterlogged pitch on both days. The match on Saturday between Tigers and Touch & Go was halted due to rain after the Windhoek side led 1-0 in the first half, but the match against Ramblers yesterday did not take place as the gravel pitch at the town was not in a condition for play to proceed. In Windhoek, former Black Africa and Brave Warriors goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo, who was confirmed as the technical director of Black Africa before the weekend matches, seemed to have done the trick for the side this time around.BA stumbled to a shameful 3-2 defeat to Touch & Go a week ago in an away game, while they also missed out on a win in their 3-1 defeat to Civics earlier last week.In a brief interview with The Namibian Sport yesterday, Kanalelo said that he firstly decided to outline his areas of concern to the players and the team’s officials before taking up his position.”Although I have not worked long with the players, I identified about ten to 11 areas of concern which I wanted to be addressed first. Some were areas such as the fitness level of the players, concentration, positioning and others. We have worked on some of them and I think it has paid off in a big way,” he said.Black Africa have now won four of their eight matches and this takes them to 14 points, six behind log leaders and defending champions Civics, who pulled a 2-2 draw against Ramblers in an exciting encounter on Friday night.Kanalelo said there is still a lot of work to be done and the players have so far showed the willingness to do so.”We have a good chance to win the title, but for now we take it one game at a time and the players are committed to put in a 100 per cent effort individually,” he said.Black Africa’s Eric Aoseb opened the scoring for the ‘Lively Lions’ with a powerful header on Saturday against Arrows after a cross from Lolo Goraseb in the first half, before Wesley Kinda finished off the business in the second half in a match played at the SKW Stadium.Yesterday, veteran midfielder Lolo Goraseb opened the scoring for his side, while Kinda was on target again in their win against Blue Waters.Elsewhere, Orlando Pirates unveiled their new scoring machine in 19-year-old Frans Ndemoja, who scored a hat-trick in their 4-3 win against Chief Santos, and again scoring the teams only goal in their 1-1 stalemate against Oshakati City yesterday.Ndemoja plays for the under-20 national team and toured South Africa for the Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championships late last year.He also toured Germany with the under-19 schools’ team last year before he was snapped up by Black Africa at the start of the season.Pirates coach Brian Isaacs was pleased with the four points, saying that it was difficult to obtain such a result outside the capital.”We played well on Saturday as we had all our players, but yesterday we did not have a good game because some of the key players were missing due to an internal problem we had in the team,” he said.He did not want to elaborate on what problems the players had with management, but said that he was “generally pleased” with the four points.Isaacs said his side was still in contention for the league title and was hoping to pick up the necessary points to close in on Civics.Civics did not play on Saturday and Sunday and have now 20 points from their draw against rivals Ramblers. They have not lost a match yet, but have drawn twice in eight matches.Pirates have now won five games of their nine played, with 18 points, just two adrift from Civics and one away from second-placed Blue Waters.Tigers coach Ali Akan was upset about the condition of the pitch at Otavi and appealed to league authorities to book alternative venues in future, as the one at the town was not suitable for premiership football.Meanwhile, league official Tim Isaacs said the two matches had to be abandoned due to natural causes and will be rescheduled according to the normal procedures.* In a late match
