Big Brother Africa: The Ghetto Fabulous Meryl

THE curtains may be coming down on Big Brother Africa 2, but they sure won’t be coming down on our special star, Meryl.

She may have left the house, but she’s remained a firm favourite in the hearts of thousands of people across the continent, headlines daily on the BBA SMS strip and is an icon on numerous threads on the BBA Social Forum. Meryl, aaaaaaaah, Meryl! All that, and 21 too.Let’s give it up for our girl.Meryl was the author of many firsts in the house: among others, the first housemate to win the Head of House challenge – the BBA IQ puzzle, and the first HoH to save someone and replace them with another housemate. If you don’t remember, she saved Bertha and replaced the Zimbabwean with Jeff! Eish, Meryl, that loving heart of yours. Most BBA connoisseurs still rate Meryl’s post-eviction interview the best by far, and who will forget the rock star reception she received from the crowd outside the house.Simply Tina Turner! And then, the mass mourning the next morning. The weeping, the wailing, the gnashing of teeth.People dressed in sackcloth and ashes for weeks. It was almost as if hordes of viewers across the continent woke up from a bad dream, or had an “aha” moment. What had they done, or allowed to happen? Maybe too many people just wanted to get Meryl out of their dreams and into their cars! Woteva, her popularity remains undimmed.Of course, there are those out there who just didn’t get the reality of Meryl, and a few who found her a pain in the bottle! Can only sympathise, it’s their loss.SIGHTINGS Just a few short snippets from one of the latest threads on Meryl on the thread, ‘What’s the gist on Meryl!!!!!’ * Adah: Would like to know what my girl Meryl has been up to, hope she is doing fine.Luv her a lot, please keep us posted …* Louisa: I would like her to present Oboma …she is full of life and energy that one.Mzansi loves you gal!!!!! * Babylicious: I just wish her all the best * Demon: Meryl and Lerato have more opportunities in the media world than any other housemates – even Bertha …And the others just suck …* Big Sister: Yes she sure does have lots of life and charm, hey.All the best Meryl.* Ogom: I really loved that girl! Oh no, I still love her very much! In spite of being over expressive at times …she came across as a very intelligent, mature, homely, sensible, beautiful and a down to earth girl.I cried the day she left and I will never forget her eviction night. It was quite eventful …I know u will go places. You are very talented.* Cham: I am a great fan of theirs (Meryl, Lerato and Max).* Silly Billy 12: I have mentioned on so many threads since my time on the forum …I have only ever voted to keep a housemate in via SMS …that was for Meryl.I often attempt to go back on the threads to see why, who and how could she have been voted off “with Maureen as her opposition”.Well Meryl you deserve all the best because you were the best. The game would have been so much different but maybe whoever voted Meryl off did her a favour …* Me Too: Wow, have just checked, have been off the forum a lot so just saw Meryl’s name and my eyes sparkle …* @Silly: Please send our love to Meryl.* Baby: I just wish her all the best.Or a message posted on another BBA blog on an entertainment site: “Friday nights were never the same after Meryl left.In fact, nothing was the same.”I could fill a page with the accolades heaped on our girl, and the love flow out in cyber space. But for now let’s just say thanks.Simply thanks. Thanks for the laughs, thanks for the memories. You’re something else! Panache, personality, presence, phly, phenom …MERYL FOR REAL!Meryl, aaaaaaaah, Meryl!
