Big Brother Africa 3: A true Namibian beauty

LUCILLE became the second housemate to be evicted from the BBA house and I think I can safely say that a large number of Namibian BBA fans are in mourning.

Many people loved Lucille – not only out of a sense of patriotism but because she epitomised our true Namibian values. Well spoken, well mannered, kind and beautiful.She had no shortage of admirers, both inside the house and among viewers across the continent.Lucille was sometimes shy and this, along with her good looks, may have ultimately sealed her fate.The BBA SMS strap line was filled with nasty messages, some accusing her for being a “beauty queen”.Some even vilely claimed she’s “thinking that she was all that because she is light skinned”.As her brother Anthony noted at the Sunday night eviction show, her eviction is all the more difficult to accept because she only received one nomination – from TK, who as HOH, replaced himself with Lu, putting her head on the chopping block to save his own.The people in the house didn’t want her to leave, evident enough from their reaction.Uti’s violent outburst was quite shocking.Mimi sobbed.Ricco shed some tears and Munya cut a sad and forlorn figure, deep in thought and lying in bed yesterday morning, holding onto to Lucille’s T-shirt.Her eviction, for me at least, was by far the saddest of all three seasons combined.As one viewer, Stephanus Gariseb, said in an e-mail to The Namibian: “It’s not fair and certainly it wasn’t her time to leave …but I’m so proud of Lucille.She handled herself very well and didn’t disappoint at all.”NATASHA UYS chatted to Lucille briefly yesterday: You were quite emotional yesterday.How are you feeling today, now that it has all sunk in? I’m feeling great.At the end of the day, this was just a game.I don’t have any hard feelings and I don’t take things too seriously.Uti had quite a strong reaction, as did a couple of other housemates.Were you surprised by their reaction? I was really surprised by Uti’s reaction.I didn’t expect him to react like that for me, it was really shocking.I also never really expected Mimi to cry.I thought she might be a bit emotional but I never anticipated her reaction.Even Ricco, as soon as he walked into the house, he went straight to the basin to wash his face.It was very emotional and quite depressing to watch.It actually broke my heart.I was really touched.How do you feel about knowing that only one person in the house nominated you? I’m not angry about it, actually I am quite cool about it all.TK obviously voted me and then decided to put me up for eviction in his place.That’s the game and he was just playing it.Namibians are baying for TK’s blood after he replaced himself with you.Many cannot wait for him to come up for possible eviction.How do you feel about him now? One thing that we all should remember is that when you live in that house, your mind becomes so small and you forget about life outside.Outside the house I see him as someone who is playing the game and tying to win the money.He’s trying not to come across as a villain.At the end of the day, it’s a competition.We all came to play the game and I don’t really see him any differently.Early on in the game you said that you liked Munya but later your feelings changed.Why? You know, initially I was attracted to Munya but then after some time, after sitting back and thinking I decided that it was not something I wanted to do.I didn’t see a future for us outside of the house and it just seemed like a waste of time.I don’t do long distance relationships and I like our Namibian guys.Ricco seemed to take quite a keen interest in you.How do you feel about Ricco? Ricco is just the same as Munya – we are just friends.We were all tight.If I had a problem I could talk to him or Munya or Mimi.Do you think that he intentionally tried to come between you and Munya? Sometimes the viewers don’t see everything that is going on in the house.I could have been sitting there and could have asked Ricco to join Munya, but that part wasn’t shown.Then it looks, to the viewers like he was trying to come between us.We were all just friends, I don’t think he intentionally tried to make Munya jealous.What will you miss most about the house?
