Bethanie’s pumping!

WATER supply at the sleepy village of Bethanie in the South has normalised, after the Village Council lifted water restrictions this week.

A month ago, Council imposed slapped stiff rations on its estimated 3 000 residents in an attempt to reduce the village’s water bill. Water was supplied daily to residents between 06h00 and 07h00, 13h00 and 1400 and from 17h00 to 20h00.Village Council Secretary Willie Humphries yesterday confirmed the lifting of the water restriction to The Namibian.According to Humphries, Council had significantly reduced Bethanie’s average monthly bill by imposing the restrictions.”Before Council began to ration water, our monthly average water bill fluctuated between N$60 000 and N$80 000, and now it has decreased to N$54 000,” he said.Humphries said Council also planned to enlist water experts to investigate suspected underground water leakages.”We suspect that leakages also contributed to the sky-rocketing water bills,” he said.On several occasions in the past, bulk water supplier, NamWater has cut off water supply to the village because of non-payment.Water was supplied daily to residents between 06h00 and 07h00, 13h00 and 1400 and from 17h00 to 20h00.Village Council Secretary Willie Humphries yesterday confirmed the lifting of the water restriction to The Namibian.According to Humphries, Council had significantly reduced Bethanie’s average monthly bill by imposing the restrictions.”Before Council began to ration water, our monthly average water bill fluctuated between N$60 000 and N$80 000, and now it has decreased to N$54 000,” he said.Humphries said Council also planned to enlist water experts to investigate suspected underground water leakages.”We suspect that leakages also contributed to the sky-rocketing water bills,” he said.On several occasions in the past, bulk water supplier, NamWater has cut off water supply to the village because of non-payment.
