Bethanie’s Mayor Minnaar dies

THE mayor of Bethanie, Paul Minnaar, died at Keetmanshoop on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack. Minnaar, a diabetic, had gone to Keetmanshoop on Tuesday to visit his doctor, and was reportedly so sick that he spent the night in private care.

According to Dr Roelie Van Wyk, Minnaar returned to his consulting room on Wednesday morning, where he suffered a heart attack and passed away between 10h00 and 11h00 despite efforts by medical staff to resuscitate him. He was 59 years old, and leaves behind his wife and two children living at Luederitz.Minnaar had served as mayor of the village of Bethanie since the local elections in May last year.Before Independence, he was a member of the White Legislative Assembly as a National Party representative, and along with Dirk Mudge and others broke away to form the Republican Party as part of the DTA.He was 59 years old, and leaves behind his wife and two children living at Luederitz.Minnaar had served as mayor of the village of Bethanie since the local elections in May last year.Before Independence, he was a member of the White Legislative Assembly as a National Party representative, and along with Dirk Mudge and others broke away to form the Republican Party as part of the DTA.
