Collin Benjamin said his Brave Warriors gave as good as they got against a strong Bafana Bafana after their friendly match ended with a goalless stalemate in Johannesburg.

Namibia were on the back foot for long periods of the encounter and failed to capitalise on the goal-scoring opportunities that came their way.

Injured skipper Peter Shalulile’s presence was sorely missed, as youngsters Muzeu Muzeu and Prins Tjiueza struggled to make an impact upfront.

The Namibia head coach took positives for his side remaining resolute and keeping their hosts at bay while threatening on occasion.

“Our team was disciplined, knowing that we’re playing against a good team, tactically and technically. In the first half, we had good chances, about three that we didn’t take. At this level, those are rare. So, that [converting chances] is definitely something we have to look at,” said Benjamin.

“In the second half, South Africa came back and really tested us in that regard. So, in the end I think its a well-deserved draw. I think each one got what they put it.

Benjamin said the Brave Warriors are beginning to appreciate tactical awareness, but he wants his charges to add a cutting edge to their performances.

“These are the opportunities the young ones have to take. They can only really learn through matches like these,” Benjamin said.

“It speaks for the players, that they’re coachable, they are hungry, want to succeed and know they can only do this as a team,” he explained.

“The truth is out on the field; that out of that organisation we could create those chances. It’s also for us now to take the next step.

“When we win the ball, what are our options? If those options are closed, how do we circulate the ball and unlock so that we can also hit a punch? So, that is what we need to keep working on.”
