During the long weekend, I happened to browse the internet and waivered from my original web page, which was basically watching carpool karaoke videos on YouTube, until I stumbled upon something… interesting.
It was a questionnaire which wanted to know if I was ‘emotionally available’ and based on the answers I received, the answer was ‘you’ve got an icebox where your heart used to be’. I’m kidding. Or am I?
Based on this, and my quirky personality of course, I decided to come up with a few traits you have to have if you’re emotionally unavailable.
You Have Yet to Cry Over a Movie
While everyone was sniffling and wiping their eyes during that epic ‘Katutura’ scene, you were just staring at the screen like “oh wow, that’s really emotional”. But not a single tear escaped from your eyes. Honestly, you don’t even know when the last time a movie made you cry and not even ‘Titanic’ did the trick. Perhaps your heart is made of steel?
You Will Never, Ever Say ‘I Love You’ First
You’re chilling with your partner and life is all good, until an awkward moment comes on where romantic music starts in the background during your date and suddenly you hear the three words you never thought you’d hear. But saying it first? Psssht, as if that’s ever going to happen! Even hearing the words is slightly uncomfortable for you, so the next best thing you’d do is say “uhm, thanks” or something along those lines. It’s tough to open up to romance!
Being Alone is a Thing For You
And when I say alone, I mean seriously alone. You’d prefer snuggling up in a blanket watching series than cuddling up in someone’s arms watching a romantic movie. Like, what are romantic movies anyway? Even that famed ‘good morning text’ would be annoying for you because number one, you love your sleep and number two, who’s up in the morning anyway?
Back, Intimacy, Back!
A hug is OK for you, but it gets really uncomfortable if it goes on too long. Matter of fact, even hugging people is just… meh. A kiss? OMW, what is that? A sexual relationship? Err, does it involve any talking? Basically your thoughts sometimes. You might even have the tendency of using people for your benefit and not expecting them to feel anything. Even the word ‘feelings’ makes you cringe to the core. So yeah, intimacy should be removed from the picture completely.
The Past is Not Up For Discussion
With the need to become more intimate with someone lacking, this prompts you to keep details about yourself to yourself too, because you wouldn’t really want the other person to do the same. When a person starts to open up to you and share their feelings, you’re either staring into space or asking yourself why they are sharing so much information with you. Not like you ever would. Because personal space is a thing, and you like to reveal bits and pieces of your life when it fits the occasion. When it comes to spilling secrets out of your own will on a random day, though… nah.
What’s a Relationship Again?
Kidding! Of course you know. And maybe, deep in your precious heart, you would love to be with the one you love, but it’s going to take some time before you actually ease into the whole relationship. Getting used to kisses, getting used to romantic gifts now and then, and even random calls to go on spontaneous dates. Usually you’d never do that. But there’s something inside that makes you feel happy. It’s all coming together. Even though it hurts to part from your bed, but yeah. When you love someone, eventually you’ll tweak yourself a little to make them happy. And they’ll tweak themselves to make you happy. Because that’s the way it’s supposed to be.
