Behind the Explosive Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Everyone knows by now that the new Samsung Note 7 has been causing quite a reaction worldwide due to the phones exploding randomly.

The mogul mobile company was forced to announce a global recall of its devices, losing over US$2 billion in a matter of days, but statistics have recently revealed that only a quarter of the devices have been returned.

Blaming the series of events on the unstable lithium-ion batteries, the company allowed users to exchange their devices for new and improved versions of the phone.

Namibians do not necessarily have to worry about that problem, because Samsung reassured users that “the battery cell issue applies only to the Galaxy Note 7 devices sold in the US before 15 September”.

Despite the safe phones being distributed, a user in China apparently suffered a blow when his Galaxy Note 7 burst into flames and thus questioned the safety of these mobiles. Banned on most airlines unless switched off, the Note 7 has been quite problematic. Sources are saying, however, that it’s still too early to tell if all devices are going to react this way.

Aside from its detonative nature, what else does the Samsung Note 7 have to offer? Here’s what: The 5,70 inch is bigger and better, packed with a super 1,6GHz core processor and 4GB worth of ram. Packing a massive 64GB worth of internal storage which is expandable to 256GB thanks to the microSD, the Note 7 also includes a rear 12-megapixel camera as well as a five-megapixel front-facing camera, which promises good quality.

The design is pretty slick, coming in a series of colours such as black oryx, silver titanium, gold platinum and blue coral. The Note 7 caters for a dual-SIM lovers and nano-SIM users can rejoice because the phone caters for you too.

Featuring the S-Pen as well (which the company is saying is the “most intelligent pen ever”), it promises to instantly translate what’s on your screen with a touch. Also good to note (no pun intended) is that the phone is water-resistant, but this is a feature that is not new to Samsung.

The iris-scanner proves to be a good feature, creating a new way to truly make the phone yours. Got some private files you don’t want anyone to see? They can also be unlocked using the scanner.

Not to mention its speakers, which turn the phone into a mini-stereo system.

This could have been quite the competition against the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus if not for the controversy that has surrounded it, but only time will tell whether the Note 7 is a phone we should skip or add into our collection of awesome smartphones.
