OKAHANDJA Beauties scooped a record third consecutive NFA Women Championships title yesterday, when they brushed aside rivals Rehoboth Queens 5-1 at the SKW Stadium.
Beauties and Brave Gladiators lead predator Stella William, scored all five goals on the day and eventually walked away with the Top Goalscorer award for her 17 goals at the colourful tournament.Beauties opened the scoring already in the second minute of the match and already led 4-0 at halftime, before Reho Queens started to show some resistance in the second stanza.Ruchanda Plaatt pulled a consolation goal for Queens late in the second half, but it was too late to repair the damage caused by Williams who showed supremacy and class when in control of the ball.Her attacking partner, Kleintjie Fredericks, was tightly marked by Queens’ Leandri Lucas who was the sweeper on the day and hardly got any clear chances to put her name on the score sheet.Beauties dominated the match and also made a huge dent in the tournament throughout by winning with large margins on their way to the final.In the end, Beauties scored 49 goals in total, giving them a 100 per cent record by scoring two goals and more in each game, while Karas blasted 13 goals past their opponents, with the JS Academy in third with 11 goals to their credit in total.The Jacqui Shipanga Academy got the third spot after they dispatched a gutsy Karas side 2-1 just before the main final.In their opening match on Saturday, Beauties romped to a 13-0 win over Omusati, before they hammered Kavango 19-0 in their second match.In their last match, they dismissed Karas 12-0 to take the lead in the standings and thus qualify as finalists.In their first match, Reho Queens managed a 4-1 win over Kavango, before they posted a 6-0 win over Kunene in their second match to give them second spot in Group A.GOOD RUN The JS Academy also had a relatively good run in the tournament that featured the top eight women’s football playing teams in the country, by firstly drawing 1-all against Kavango, before they managed to beat Kunene 4-0 in their second match.Karas, who were voted the Best Team of the tournament, blasted Caprivi 10-0 in their opening match before being halted to a 2-all draw by Omusati to secure a third-place playoff alongside JS Academy.Beauties picked up the most awards after the tournament, with Letitia Eixas walking away with the Best Goalkeeper award after she only conceded one goal, while Williams was voted the Best Player of the Championships.Beauties team manager Natasha Cloete was named as the Best Manager, while the Best Young Player was Stacy Naris, also from Beauties.Jacqui Shipanga, who did the goalkeeping and coaching duties for her side, got the Best Coach award on the day, after her side managed to clinch the third spot overall. Organisers also gave awards to Namibia Sport, The Namibian and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for their coverage and promotion of the women’s game in the country. corry@namibian.com.na
