Beauties Football Club won the FNB Women Super League with a match to spare after beating Windhoek City 1-0 on Sunday.
Beauties also picked up a point in a 2-2 draw against Khomas Nampol on Saturday, and although the defending champions Ongos Ladies thumped Namib Daughters 8-2 at Swakopmund on Sunday, it was not enough to catch Beauties anymore.
With one round remaining Beauties now lead Ongos by four points and after their win on Sunday, they already started their celebrations.
It was their first title since 2014 when they still campaigned as Okahandja Beauties, before changing their name, while they also halted Ongos’ recent dominance, who were aiming to win the title for the third year in a row.
On Sunday, Windhoek City provided stiff opposition and it took Beauties a while to open their account.
Leena Alweendo put in some strong attacks down the right wing, having a shot saved, while Helena Amwandangi scored from another cross only to be ruled offside.
Their pressure finally told midway through thefirst half when a powerful long range shot by Kamunikire Tjituka that was too hot to handle for City’s goal keeper and deflected into the net.
Beauties coach Salome Iyambo said she was delighted to win the league title.
“We are absolutely delighted to have secured the title with a match to spare. This marks our 13th league title since 2003, a truly remarkable achievement, especially considering the interruptions of league in 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Reclaiming our glory is both emotional and fulfilling.”
“This triumph is a testament to the resilience, patience, and relentless hard work of everyone involved with Beauties FC. After finishing third andsecond over the last two seasons, during a challenging transitional period following the Fifa Normalization process, we stayed committed to our long-term vision and believed in the process,” she added.
“I’m incredibly proud of how the team responded. Winning the league is special, and these accolades highlight not only individual brilliance but also the collective strength and unity of this group as we look forward to this year’s awards. The girls wanted it since day one and they’ve delivered the task efficiently. Being part of this space, at this time, is an honor. This title is a fantastic reward for the tireless effort of our players, technical team and the broader Beauties FC supporters,” she said.
“Although with huge financial constraints and no sponsor for our club, we are are determined and proud to represent Namibia women’s football at the next regional level (CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifers) and will continue striving for excellence both on and off the pitch,” she added.
The weekend’s other results were as follows:
