If there’s one thing I’ve learnt in this lifetime, it’s that if you want your circumstances to change, you have to change.
Period.
This reality was once again confirmed to me last week when I attended the first phase of the most intense training course I’ve ever been on. And while this programme is designed to unlock the leader within you, it has a way of making you look at yourself like never before.
I was once again faced with the reality that nothing will change unless I do. Eventually the experience became more of a personal confrontation, and I was forced to look at life differently.
We tend to look at what goes on around us, and blame our circumstances. We merely accept our reality and we tend to make the same mistakes over and over again, thus reaping the same results and bumping our heads at the same spot over and over again.
Yet still we question the fairness of life, while in actual fact, it is us who must change in order for our lives to improve.
You can’t expect different results if you continue to do the same things you have been doing. When I think about it and realise that I have been doing things the same way but expecting different results… I feel stupid.
Because it is stupid.
If you want different results, make different choices. Make better decisions.
If you want a better, more fruitful and happier life, have a look at how you do things and how you live your life. Make it a priority to identify where you need to change in order to have a better tomorrow.
The way you look at yourself also contributes immensely to the decisions you end up making. What do you see when you look in the mirror? The truth is, your perception of yourself determines the value of the decisions you make.
Look down on yourself and you will make unhealthy decisions. But value yourself, see a champ in the mirror and your decisions will naturally be for your best.
I have also realised that change is one of the most difficult things any human being can do, but it can be the most rewarding.
Ever heard of the saying ‘be the change you want to see’? Well, while many of us sometimes refuse to accept this truth in certain aspects of our lives, it remains the truth and cannot be changed.
If you want to see change, you have to change.
Sometimes we simply have to accept the world we live in today. It is what it is. Unfortunately in most cases there is nothing we can do to change it, but instead we must change the way we look at things.
This will influence the decisions we make. Whether in your career, at home, in your personal relationships or even socially – the current will not change for the better or be what you hope it to be unless you change.
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you like what you see? If not, it will not get better or turn into what you want it to be unless you change.
Are you happy with the results of your work, studies, personal growth, friendships, love life, and relationships? If not, be the change you want to see manifested in your life.
Till next time, cheers!
