Be proactive, Ndeitunga tells police after deadly Namdia heist

Sebastian Ndeitunga

Former Namibian Police inspector general Sebastian Ndeitunga says security agents need to be more proactive.

This comes after an armed robbery took place at the Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia) office in Windhoek on Saturday evening, in which a security guard was shot and killed.

“Criminals, they have all their strategies. Criminals have also put up their annual plan and in their annual plan they have specific targets. So we, as peace-loving people in the security sectors, we have to be proactive,” Ndeitunga says.

According to Ndeitunga, criminals strategise when best to target institutions, often striking when security is low.

“Criminals take chances when they see the security is low. It is not at the level [security] where they can scare them [criminals] off.”

Speaking to The Namibian on Monday, Ndeitunga said he cannot be sure if the Namdia heist is one of the biggest robberies the country has seen, but he highlighted that the country sees a lot of robberies.
