TYGA is trouble and Nicki Minaj is your over friendly neighbourhood stylist in ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ (2016), the fourth film in the comedy series starring Ice Cube, Common, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson and Eve.
As funny as famed but grappling with issues of gang violence and the loss of young, black male life, ‘Barbershop’ does what it does best with some topical social conscience.
Less to do with the Black Lives Matter movement and calling instead on black communities to build, educate and do better from within, the film focuses on family and community as Calvin, Eddie and their gang of one liner slingers come together as gang violence escalates and tragedy strikes.
Fun and issue driven in just about equal measure, ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ is a sequel with heart and well worth a watch if you’re a fan of the franchise.
