KEETMANSHOOP – The Mayor of Luederitz, Emelia Amupewa, has called on financial institutions countrywide to make banking facilities readily accessible to rural communities for socio-economic development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Bank Windhoek branch at the southern coastal town last week, Amupewa stressed that Government had done its part to attract investors to remote towns such as Luederitz trough the injection of millions of dollars in infrastructural development projects. She, thus, called on the corporate world to assist Government’s initiatives.”I think you will agree with me that the provision of banking facilities through the Bank Windhoek Luederitz branch will further enhance the economic development of the town.I am indeed very glad to hear of Bank Windhoek’s provision of services to the Karas Region in particular.”In Namibia we need more proactive companies like Bank Windhoek that are willing to satisfy the needs of all Namibian citizens,” Amupewa said. She noted that investment could only take place if local authorities created an enabling environment to attract investors to their areas. She said Luederitz has been experiencing a major boom in development over the past few years.Amupewa urged Bank Windhoek to branch out to other towns and settlements in the region to provide adequate banking facilities where needed. The fishing and mining sectors mainly support the economy of Luederitz, a town with an estimated population of between 25 000 and 30 000.Speaking at the same occasion, Bank Windhoek’s Executive Officer of Retail Banking Services, Andre Nel, said the decision by his bank to extend its branch to Luederitz came about after “months of intensive research and feasibility studies”.”The growth and development of the Luederitz economy and our existing loyal client base in Luederitz were key drivers of our decision to establish a branch there,” Nel noted.NampaShe, thus, called on the corporate world to assist Government’s initiatives.”I think you will agree with me that the provision of banking facilities through the Bank Windhoek Luederitz branch will further enhance the economic development of the town.I am indeed very glad to hear of Bank Windhoek’s provision of services to the Karas Region in particular.”In Namibia we need more proactive companies like Bank Windhoek that are willing to satisfy the needs of all Namibian citizens,” Amupewa said. The fishing and mining sectors mainly support the economy of Luederitz, a town with an estimated population of between 25 000 and 30 000.Speaking at the same occasion, Bank Windhoek’s Executive Officer of Retail Banking Services, Andre Nel, said the decision by his bank to extend its branch to Luederitz came about after “months of intensive research and feasibility studies”.”The growth and development of the Luederitz economy and our existing loyal client base in Luederitz were key drivers of our decision to establish a branch there,” Nel noted.Nampa
