Bank Windhoek backs Media Awards

BANK Windhoek has sponsored N$23 000 for the 2006 Namibia Media Awards.

Speaking at a Media Institute in Southern Africa (Misa) press conference yesterday, Bank Windhoek’s Marketing and Corporate Communication Services, Marlize Horn said: “The awards event taking place on Friday, June 30, honours the very best performers in the print and broadcast media in the country.” She said that the bank was sponsoring both the Business Journalist of the Year and Journalist of the Year categories.Horn said the Business Award would go to a journalist who had shown an extraordinary ability to cover economic, business, corporate and financial news. She said Bank Windhoek was also proud to be associated with the highest honour that Misa Namibia’s Board of Directors could bestow on an individual, the Journalist of the Year Award. The winner will be chosen from all categories, but judges can also recognise an individual for a significant contribution of lasting influence on the theory and practice of journalism and press freedom, she said.Horn said that by supporting the awards, Bank Windhoek wanted to contribute to encouraging journalists to deliver quality reporting that would lead to improvements in the country and the lives of Namibian citizens. The media was one of the tools used to ensure effective communication, she said, adding that the media relied on Bank Windhoek to generate newsworthy stories and in turn, “we rely on the media to transmit our stories”.She said they continuously sought to present the truth, put it in perspective and publish it so that people could conduct their affairs accordingly.A total of 154 entries in 23 categories were received from the media.Winners will be announced at an award ceremony in Windhoek on Friday.- NampaShe said that the bank was sponsoring both the Business Journalist of the Year and Journalist of the Year categories.Horn said the Business Award would go to a journalist who had shown an extraordinary ability to cover economic, business, corporate and financial news. The media was one of the tools used to ensure effective communication, she said, adding that the media relied on Bank Windhoek to generate newsworthy stories and in turn, “we rely on the media to transmit our stories”.She said they continuously sought to present the truth, put it in perspective and publish it so that people could conduct their affairs accordingly.A total of 154 entries in 23 categories were received from the media.Winners will be announced at an award ceremony in Windhoek on Friday.- Nampa
