Bamfuchile upset by irate callers

BRAVE Warriors coach Ben Bamfuchile was upset about some members of the public who insulted him yesterday after the resignation of Namibian defender George Hummel from the national team.

Bamfuchile told The Namibian Sport that he received many calls from irate members of the public who were hurling insults at him for most of yesterday morning. “I am very disturbed by these insults. It is really bad as we are preparing for a crucial match on Saturday.I am very disappointed and I don’t think it will make it any easier to do my job as a coach,” he said.He said some insulted his parents and this had never happened to him as a professional coach before.Bamfuchile said some people were not happy with the exclusion of George Hummel from the national team.”We had a discussion with George and he put forth his reasons why he was retiring from international football. We initially still wanted to keep him in the team as he was largely part of the plans of the side,” said the Zambian-born coach. He said the technical team did not drop Hummel from the side, but he decided to leave the team at his own discretion. He said the people misunderstood the fact that Hummel himself had decided to go.He said it was not pleasant for him as a coach to receive calls from the public only with the purpose of swearing at him.”I even considered switching off my phone but as a professional I cannot do that.I also wanted to change my number, but this is also not possible as I will not be available when I am needed by some who have my number,” he said.He said the team has a lot of potential to make it far in the game, but he needs the support of the nation to make this happen.”I am very confident about the future success of this team.We have to hold hands and work towards a common goal.As a coach, I will require the support of all the football stakeholders to make Namibia a winning nation on the pitch,” he said.”I am very disturbed by these insults. He said the people misunderstood the fact that Hummel himself had decided to go.He said it was not pleasant for him as a coach to receive calls from the public only with the purpose of swearing at him.”I even considered switching off my phone but as a professional I cannot do that.I also wanted to change my number, but this is also not possible as I will not be available when I am needed by some who have my number,” he said.He said the team has a lot of potential to make it far in the game, but he needs the support of the nation to make this happen.”I am very confident about the future success of this team.We have to hold hands and work towards a common goal.As a coach, I will require the support of all the football stakeholders to make Namibia a winning nation on the pitch,” he said.
