THREE men accused of stealing about 10 tonnes of drought food aid are due to plead to charges of theft in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
Yesterday, Martin Kudumo Mukoso (27) and Julius Dausab (37) made their first court appearance and were granted bail of N$2 000 each. Mukoso is an official of the Regional Management Unit (REMU) at Rundu in charge of controlling the delivery of consignments of aid to the warehouses.Dausab is the driver of the truck believed to have dumped 839 bags of maize meal on a farm belonging to Raphael Karavora near Kasava 11 days ago.Karavora was also granted bail after his application was turned down on Friday. The bags of maize meal, labelled as destined for the drought relief programme, were found by farmworkers who alerted traditional leaders. The truck allegedly driven by Dausab originated in Windhoek and had been expected to deliver the consignment found on the farm in Rundu.Although Police are not ruling out that there may be more people involved in what they believe is a syndicate, no further arrests have been made yet.The Police Regional Commander for the Kavango, Chief Inspector Olavi Auanga, told The Namibian yesterday that he was disappointed the trio had been granted bail while investigations were not yet complete.Mukoso is an official of the Regional Management Unit (REMU) at Rundu in charge of controlling the delivery of consignments of aid to the warehouses.Dausab is the driver of the truck believed to have dumped 839 bags of maize meal on a farm belonging to Raphael Karavora near Kasava 11 days ago.Karavora was also granted bail after his application was turned down on Friday. The bags of maize meal, labelled as destined for the drought relief programme, were found by farmworkers who alerted traditional leaders. The truck allegedly driven by Dausab originated in Windhoek and had been expected to deliver the consignment found on the farm in Rundu.Although Police are not ruling out that there may be more people involved in what they believe is a syndicate, no further arrests have been made yet.The Police Regional Commander for the Kavango, Chief Inspector Olavi Auanga, told The Namibian yesterday that he was disappointed the trio had been granted bail while investigations were not yet complete.
