Haircare brand Rooted Beginnings yesterday held its ‘Back-to-School Beauty Boost’ at Bartlett Street, Goreangab, in Windhoek.
The initiative aims to style pupils’ hair for the new term.
Founder Rosalia Haufiku says the initiative is held to provide free haircare services and school supplies to children in her community.
About 30 children benefited from the project. This is the second year the team is hosting the event.
”The goal was to ensure the children start the school year feeling confident, cared for and ready to learn. Every term, the weekend before school starts, we get children from informal settlements and do their hair. We wash, braid or cut their hair for free,” Haufiku says.
She says they decided on children because they are the country’s future leaders and deserve the best.
Haufiku says she and her team believe starting school with a neat appearance can boost one’s confidence and can encourage better focus and participation in class.
“A fresh start, with clean hair and basic school supplies, can have a profound impact on their confidence, self-esteem and readiness to learn. It’s a small but meaningful way to set a positive tone for their school experience and show them that they’re valued.
“Starting school with a neat appearance can inspire children to feel proud of themselves, which can positively affect their interactions with peers and teachers,” she says.
Haufiku says hosting the event was inspired by her own experience as a child.
“I remember how special it felt to start school looking neat, but I also noticed how some kids came with unkempt hair, which impacted their confidence. This project is deeply personal to me. This is my way of giving back and uplifting the next generation,” she says.
Essential stationery items like pens, pencils, erasers and rulers, snacks like sweets and chips, and a bar of soap were handed out to each child.
