The body of a fully developed baby girl was discovered in a skip in Swakopmund’s Mondesa suburb on Monday afternoon.

A local resident discovered the body while searching for bottles in the skip located at Immanuel Khamo Street, according to the police.

“The baby’s body was found concealed in two new backpacks — one pink and one dark blue — left in the skip. It is unclear who left the backpacks and who is responsible for the baby’s death,” the police noted.

The police are investigating the case as a concealment of birth.

The baby’s remains have been taken to Swakopmund State Hospital for certification of death.

Police are appealing to the public for information that could assist with the investigation.
